  • Technique classes will focus on foundational technique as it applies to the various dance styles performed throughout the dancers’ careers at EDA and beyond. Expanding on the work done in ballet class, these classes will typically be comprised of a short warm up and stretch followed by exercises done at the barre, center, and across the floor - at times incorporating the use of yoga blocks, Therabands, etc. These sessions aim to enhance dancers' strength and endurance, reduce the risk of injury, enable them to perform more advanced skills safely, and refine transitional movements in choreography. Intermediate and 6th&UP Company dancers are required to attend these technique classes.

  • This class breaks down and digs deeper into the fundamentals of turning and technical sequencing of moves along with combining turns and tricks. Dancers will work on a variety of turns, leaps, turning leaps and other technique based skills. We highly recommend taking this in conjunction with Ballet. This is a wonderful class for dancers interested in brushing up on their skills prior joining their High School Dance Team or one of EDA All Star Pom Teams!

  • In Ballet Barre Class, dancers are taught proper body alignment, ballet vocabulary, foot articulation, and barre work appropriate for each age level. The class emphasizes the development of skilled pom dancers by enhancing balance, control, strength, flexibility, and fundamental techniques. Consequently, these classes are mandatory for all competitive pom dancers.

  • Company Ballet aims to improve dancers' physical and mental discipline, reinforcing ballet vocabulary, posture, foot articulation, flexibility, and strength.
The class starts with barre exercises, then progresses to center work and movements across the floor. Students aged 12 and above may have the option to practice pointe work during the center and floor exercises, upon approval. This class is mandatory for all Company Dancers and highly recommended for all dedicated dancers.

  • Pom dancing focuses on precise, synchronized motions along with technical dance skills (such as jumps, turns, and leaps). Routines can encompass various styles of dance and will be geared towards a jazz style. Pom focuses a lot on formations and visual elements as well. It is energetic and fun to perform and to watch!

  • Jazz classes focus on syncopated rhythms, body isolations, and precision through technique and movement. Born out of many different dance styles - including African dance, American tap dance, ballet, and theater - Jazz Dance has evolved throughout its history as it is inherently related to the music that has evolved alongside it. As a result, dancers will be exposed to various styles of jazz dance throughout the year - from funk and theater jazz to lyrical and pop jazz. Classes will typically begin with a warm-up, followed by progressions across the floor, and end with learning choreography.

    Each Jazz class performs 1 DANCE at recital.

  • Tap dance is a dynamic dance style that emphasizes rhythm and percussion. Dancers will acquire traditional tap vocabulary by engaging in floor exercises that enhance dynamics, shading, phrasing, musicality, and showmanship. This form of dance enhances reflexes, memory skills, and coordination, making it a beneficial class for serious dancers.

    Each Tap Class performs 1 DANCE at recital.

  • Musical Theater classes focus on teaching correct dance techniques and delving into the diverse dance styles showcased in both historical and modern Broadway productions. Storytelling, character building, and musicality will be the dancers’ primary focus in this class. Sometimes singing is incorporated.

  • By blending various dance styles, Contemporary dancers will emphasize musicality, floor work, movement texture, and improvisation. This class aims to guide dancers in self-discovery through movement, enabling them to shape their unique dance style within the realm of contemporary dance.

    Each Contemporary class performs 1 DANCE at recital.

  • The hottest and latest dance steps, style, funk and street moves. Learn the latest dance moves from the east coast to the west coast, high energy, street grove and razor sharp action choreography. Great for fun, dance teams, dance technique and exercise!

    Hiphop classes perform 1 DANCE at recital.

  • In Choreography Theory, dancers delve into the process of conceptualizing and crafting choreography, starting from initial inspiration to completing a performance piece. The course emphasizes storytelling through dance and movement, equipping dancers with the essential skills required for successful choreography. Additionally, dancer will explore music and costume selection, choreography notation, and methods for effectively communicating and teaching choreography to peers. Towards the end of the season, dancers collaborate to create a student-choreographed piece for the recital performance.
